Book 5 in the Amy Rowlings Mysteries & another read off my tbr pile! I love this series set in 1930s Kent, the characters feel so real & the atmospheric setting draws you in. This is definitely my favourite so far.
In late August 1939, a violent storm causes a tree to collapse on an already derelict cottage. A skeleton is revealed & so begins an investigation which goes back ten years as well as present day involving some very unsavoury types & actions. The local amateur dramatic society is to the fore, especially a fallen idol who thinks he is still a star.
A large cast of characters, as befitting the theatrical setting, who are pulled together in a denouement worthy of Poirot. Humour aplenty & nuggets of historical accuracy make this cosy crime a must read. A chilling ending, though.
