Hello everyone,
I’ve had a lot of new readers join recently, so I wanted to take a moment to talk about the world of the Amy Rowlings Mystery series and what inspired me to write these 1930s cosy mysteries set in Kent. When I first started planning the books, I knew I wanted to capture the charm and atmosphere of Golden Age detective fiction — the kind of stories written by Agatha Christie and other classic authors of the era. There’s something irresistible about a British amateur sleuth solving crimes in a close‑knit village where everyone has a secret.
The series begins with Murder at the Mill, a  late 1930s cosy mystery set in the fictional Kent town of Spinton, on the edge of the Medway estuary. Amy Rowling,s my Agatha Christie-loving, sharp‑eyed heroine, finds herself drawn into a murder case that shakes the community. From there, the series explores different corners of pre‑war Kent — theatres, churches, riverside towns, markets and bustling high streets — each one offering a new puzzle, a new cast of suspects, and a fresh challenge for Amy.
Readers often tell me that the books remind them of Agatha Christie‑style mysteries, with their focus on clues, motives, and character‑driven storytelling. That’s exactly the feeling I hoped to capture: the warmth of a cosy crime novel, the intrigue of a village, or small-town murder mystery, and the charm of a world just on the brink of change. If you enjoy light‑hearted whodunits, female‑sleuth series, or historical cosy crime, then Amy’s adventures might be right up your street.
Writing these stories has been a joy, and I’m grateful for every message, review, and email I receive. If you’ve read any of the books and enjoyed them, leaving a short review on Amazon or Goodreads really helps new readers discover the series. Even a single sentence makes a difference.
Thank you for being part of Amy’s journey — and for supporting the world of pre‑war crime fiction. I’m already deep into the next mystery, and I can’t wait to share more with you soon.
Warm regards,
T.A. Belshaw
